Iwasresponsibleforpaintingandembellishingbooks.Iilluminatedtheedgesofpages,coloringtheirborderswiththemostlifelikedesignsofleaves,branches,roses,flowersandbirds.IpaintedscallopedChinese-styleclouds,clustersofoverlappingvinesandforestsofcolorthathidgazelles,galleys,sultans,trees,palaces,horsesandhunters.Inmyyouth,Iwoulddecorateaplate,orthebackofamirror,orachest,orattimes,theceilingofamansionorofaBosphorusmanor,oreven,awoodenspoon.Inlateryears,however,IonlyworkedonmanuscriptpagesbecauseOurSultanpaidwellforthem.Ican’tsayitseemsinsignificantnow.Youknowthevalueofmoneyevenwhenyou’redead.
