范昭站起身来，取出一枚长银针，弯腰准备刺索菲的膻中穴。船身忽然剧烈晃动，范昭立足不稳，一下扑倒在索菲身上，和索菲右脸贴右脸。索菲轻哼一声，伸出双手紧紧抱着范昭。范昭微微一挣，明显感受到索菲芬芳的气息和热烈的心跳，心内一时迷乱。少顷，船身渐稳，范昭抬起头，瞧见索菲眼里满是笑意。
索菲道：“A rough touch, again. No more rough than you cast that spell called but acupuncture on me, and I still hurt on my bosom.（你又弄疼我了。不过没有你对我施展那种叫针灸的魔法疼。我现在胸口隐隐作疼。）”“Is it really?（真的吗？）”范昭暗忖：她胸口怎么会疼？索菲轻声道：“As if I were shot by Cupid’s arrow. （刚才，丘比特的箭射中了我的胸口。）”
索菲大胆示爱，范昭却不安起来。15岁的索菲，正是朝气蓬勃、青春活力。索菲盯着范昭的眼睛，道：“Call me saint, like Romeo to Juliet, can you? （叫我saint吧，就像罗密欧叫朱丽叶那样，好吗？）”
《罗密欧与朱丽叶》是莎翁的名作，范昭（许时今）印象深刻。许时今追上陈慧殊后，被好友羡慕。大四毕业前夕，好友们聚集在学校操场上，星空下，许时今和陈慧殊表演过罗密欧与朱丽叶的经典对话：
“If I profane with my unworthiest hand, My lips, two blushing pilgrims, ready stand To smooth that rough touch with a tender kiss.”
“Good pilgrim, you do wrong your hand too much, For saints have hands that pilgrims' hands do touch, And palm to palm is holy palmers' kiss.”
“Have not saints lips, and holy palmers too?”
“lips that they must use in prayer. ”
“O, then, dear saint, let lips do what hands do; They pray, grant thou, lest faith turn to despair. ”
“Saints do not move, though grant for prayers' sake. ”
“Then move not. ”
这段对话是罗密欧与朱丽叶在舞会上初次见面，双方还不知道对方的身份时说的。大意是，罗密欧大胆挑逗朱丽叶，然后希望吻她的手作为向朱丽叶的道歉。朱丽叶不同意，告诉罗密欧彼此手掌相合，才是正确的礼节。罗密欧趁机请求让嘴唇做手的事情，其实就是想让朱丽叶亲吻他。朱丽叶说，信徒的嘴唇要祷告神明。罗密欧借机祷告神明，亲吻了朱丽叶。
